HBR Case Studies – Part 2
An Explanatory Case Study is a clear-cut description of a current problem, about which a business case study is developed and presented to a Business student. In other words, an Explanatory Case Study is an individual story used to teach a specific scenario.
How does the BSC work with an Explanatory Case Study Analysis? This technique usually works by creating a group of business students who are all interested in a particular business model. This type of situation requires more imagination and creativity from the students.
The students need to put their different aspects of the business together, which can include their products, service, customers, and employees, to create a successful business model. This often takes more time and effort for the students to put together, which is where an Explanatory Case Study comes in.
An Explanatory Online Case Study Analysis is created by a Business Student for a specific model that they are studying, by using the keywords and facts that the Business Student believes is going to be profitable. A concept, such as a business unit, or a specific product or service being considered by the student is used as a focal point. As the Business Student prepares this framework, the student will start to develop a customized HBR Case Study Analysis.
In this process, the students are able to input all the information from the specific model and group it with facts, concepts, and key points about the model. To simplify things, the Student will either write or read the model down, so the whole process of writing the entire framework for a model can be applied to any other model or topic that the student is interested in. This will give the students more flexibility with their research, giving them more of an insight into the market and the system, making them better informed about how their business can be improved.
Many Students report that their understanding of the markets is improved by learning the various types of case studies and by applying the case study analysis to their own business models. The ability to apply and test new ideas and concepts is always key to building a strong business.
Some students have reported a greater understanding of the internal processes and sources of potential customer dissatisfaction by learning about the “Rules of Acquisition.” The students’ Understanding of their markets and how these markets work is vastly improved through learning the Theory of Internalization. An Explanatory Case Study Analysis enables them to put these theories into action, to understand how their own business functions and how these processes relate to the customer and the market.
The HBR Case Study Analysis enables the Business Student to apply these concepts to their own business model, giving them the ability to solve the “Marketing Formula.” Often, a more advanced interpretation of the underlying market trends will also be necessary in order to create a solid business model and generate repeat business.
How should the HBR Case Study Analysis be structured? A “Review” structure should be followed in order to make sure that all the logical categories have been addressed, without leaving anything out. In this format, all of the various aspects of the model should be discussed, including both market specific and general concepts.
While reading a model or the descriptions of the scenarios, an Explanatory Case Study Analysis can help bring the key points out, and in turn help to explain these key points in a more coherent manner. When reading, the student should be careful to look for specific details, such as what processes are being used to produce the outcomes, what the cost structures are, and how the various costs affect the cost of each outcome.
After reviewing all of the key points, the student should examine how much of each aspect is needed for the outcome to be an effect of the overall market phenomenon. It is very important to keep track of the actual inputs, such as what level of detail is required to correctly describe the information needed for each aspect.
As a summary, an Explanatory Case Study Analysis allows a Business Student to move past just knowing the broad outline of a model, and allow them to become more familiar with the overall workings of the model. It provides a useful framework for analyzing the model, and a way to help students understand why certain market decisions are being made. and what the future trends will look like.
